Lip Blush

WHAT IS LIP BLUSH?

Lip blushing is a form of permanent makeup that enhances the color of your natural lips. The technique uses a machine and a sterilized disposable needle to produce micro-pixilated dots throughout the superficial layers of the lips. The result is a natural appearing lip-enhancement with a sheer and subtle color once healed.

This treatment can correct asymmetry and add definition to make the lips appear fuller, but it can only be done within the natural lip contour. The skin around the lips has a different texture, and we do NOT work outside of the vermillion border. The illusion of fuller lips can be achieved by using certain techniques. For example - shading more heavily around the outer edges, and gradually lightening up while approaching the inner area of the lips. Clients who have really dark pigmented lips (Fitzpatrick 5-6) may not be a candidate for lip blushing. If you have darker pigmented lips, please email us a photo prior to booking an appointment.
COLOR BOOSTS & RETENTION

Lip blush is a two-appointment process. During your initial appointment we will schedule a complimentary follow up for 8-12 weeks after your initial session. For most clients, the color looks dramatically lighter after the first week. Many clients prefer natural results, but some expect a bolder look. It is always good to start with a lighter color to leave room for modifications in the future. The same color will look and heal differently on every client, so a color correction or more saturation may be needed in the follow-up appointment. If you are looking for supernatural results, then  a touch-up may not be needed, but most people require a second session. Lip blush is a process. If your lips do not heal perfectly after the first appointment - DO NOT WORRY! We can always add more density in your follow-up.

After the first two-appointments, a Color Boost (single appointment) is recommended every 1-2 years. Some clients may retain pigment longer, but color retention depends on a clients’ skin type, lifestyle, and proper aftercare. The darker and more saturated the color, the longer it will retain its visibility. However, lip blush will gradually fade over time. The skin of the lips constantly renews itself, and the particles in the pigment will be naturally broken down by the body.

THE APPOINTMENT PROCESS
Please allow 2-3 hours for all appointments.

THE CONSULTATION
The consultation is done the day of your initial appointment and heavy emphasis is placed on understanding your expectations. This technique is customizable, and we recommend bringing your desired lipstick color or tint to your appointment.
All clients are required to bring a photo ID and fill out a health history form prior to their appointment in order to ensure their skin is in good condition before beginning treatment.
As a client, you will be involved and informed during the entire process.

BEFORE & AFTER PHOTOGRAPHS
We photograph our work before and after the treatment for client records and insurance. Before and after photographs are also necessary to assess your healed results during the perfecting session.
We respect the privacy of our clients, and we will NOT use photos on social media without your consent.

LIP SHAPING & CLIENT APPROVAL
If you have an ideal shape and color in mind, please bring a couple reference photos to your appointment. Shaping your lips correctly is the foundation for achieving the perfect outline. We will use a waterproof pencil to draw the initial outline for the shape of your lips.
We do not move forward with the treatment until receiving your approval of the design.

NUMBING & COLOR SELECTION
Topical anesthetics (benzocaine/lidocaine/tetracaine) are used to numb the treatment area. After achieving the outline, then the anesthetic will be allowed to absorb into the skin for 15 minutes. Additional anesthetic will be used throughout the treatment to keep you comfortable. However - even after the anesthetic has been applied, there can still be discomfort.
During your numbing time - we will choose your lip color based on your desired result, and what is best suited for your skin type.

LIP BLUSH TREATMENT
A machine is used to produce micro-pixilated dots throughout the superficial layers of the lips.
This part of the process takes 60-90 minutes to complete.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE
We remove excess pigment from the treated area, take after photographs, and apply Aquaphor to your lips. Aquaphor will be the only product you will apply to your lips during the healing process.
Your touch-up appointment will be scheduled for 8-12 weeks after your initial appointment, and we will schedule this before you leave.
